Banks focus on distributed ledger
The focal area where distributed ledger
technology may be used is in central bank circles.
The banks could issue ‘digital’ coins
between itself its associate banks to
ensure that there are no ‘cash lags’
when deploying local currency in fast trading
environments.
A recent study of 57 central banks found that
over four-fifths were exploring the potential to
issue central bank digital currencies on a
distributed ledger.
In addition, two-thirds said
they were currently testing proof-of-concept
projects regarding distributed ledgers. One-fifth
expect live implementation within the next one to
two years.
