Customs duties are the main duties
Import duties
Customs duties are the main duties effectively increasing the price of foreign
goods over that of domestic or EU products. German customs duties are all
based on value and are levied at rates dependent on the type of goods and on
the country of origin. Imports from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and
Switzerland are generally free of duty, and the same applies to most imports
from Turkey and the other EU candidate or associate countries. The rate of duty
on imports of manufactured products from other countries is often zero and
rarely rises above 10%.
Additional duties are levied from time to time on
specific products from specific countries at the direction of the EU, usually as a
result of an anti-dumping case.
