Patents are granted for technical inventions

Patents are granted for technical inventions that are novel
throughout the world, involve an inventive step, and are suscepti-
ble of industrial application.

The patent gives the proprietor of the patent the exclusive right
to use the patent for a period of 20 years from the day following
the fling of the application. The invention may be used only
subject to the consent of the patent proprietor.

Patents may be granted for inventions in all technical felds.
No patents will be granted in Germany for simple discoveries,
scientifc theories, mathematical methods, schemes, rules and
methods for performing mental acts, playing games, or doing
business, e. G. Organization models.
